Francois Pillement, ca. 1820
A gorgeous French double bass attributed to Francois Pillement, ca. 1820. This 7/8 size model features a fine-grain spruce top, flamed maple round back, lightly figured maple ribs, and maple scroll. The bass carries ebony fittings, an adjustable maple bridge, slightly later brass and steel French tuning machines, and a chromatic C-extension. A top-off restoration was completed at the Heinl shop in Toronto. This is a comfortable and lovely bass to play, with a big, warm, open sound that would fit in nicely with any professional section!
